This #FeatureFriday we are featuring the 243-acre Sylvester Manor Educational Farm on Shelter Island. Founded in 1652 by Nathaniel Sylvester, the Manor lands were once a provisioning plantation for the West Indies' "Triangle Trade" and remained in the hands of the original family for 11 generations. It is now notable as being one of the best-preserved plantation remnants in the country. Today, as a non-profit that is open to the public, it is a thriving organic vegetable farm with chickens, pigs and goats. There is a year-round music program, including an outdoor summer concert series, theatrical performances (Shakespeare at the Manor), summer programming for children, Manor House tours and more.

Visit this historic site and be part of its mission to cultivate, preserve and share.
